Lash Care

It is recommended that you do not get your new lash extensions wet for at least 24 hours after they are applied and to also avoid Saunas, Exercise, Swimming or Skin Treatments as the glue is still curing. If you do get them wet, they can crystallise and cause irritation which may lead to rubbing of the eyes. We also advise against booking any invasive skin treatments or injectables in the 5 days after your appointment.

PICKING OR RUBBING: Often you may find yourself rubbing your eyes, however, excessive rubbing or picking your lash extensions can loosen the adhesive and cause the extensions to fall out. This can also lead to loss or damage of your natural lashes. It is advised to avoid rubbing your eyes when wearing lash extensions.

CLEANING: Whilst you may be hesitant to touch your extensions, if you do not remove the debris and dirt build up, you up may end up losing extensions. Not cleaning your extensions can invite infection or inflammation into the hair follicle. Brushing your extensions is important general care - You should brush your lashes with a spoolie or lash brush in the morning and after getting them wet. Make sure you use gentle strokes when brushing and clean your spoolie or brush when done.

MASCARA: One of the many benefits of lash extensions is not having to wear mascara. Mascara can break down the bonds on the adhesive of the extensions. If you insist on still wearing mascara, make sure to apply it only on the middle of the lashes up to the tip. Waterproof mascara is not recommended as it is harder to remove which can cause tugging your lash extensions out place.

It is always recommended to not wear any mascara when you have lash extensions.

OILY SKIN: Having oily skin can be difficult to manage at the best of times, unfortunately it can also cause issues for your lash extensions, as the oil in your skin can break down the adhesive, causing lashes not to stick. In extreme cases lash extensions may not even stick at all.

SKIN CARE: Using oil based skin care products is also not recommend, as these can break down the adhesive, causing your lash extensions to fall out.

MEDICATIONS/VITAMINS: Thyroid medication can change the environment of the lash area, making your lashes naturally oilier. Please be aware if you are taking thyroid medication, your lashes may respond differently. Vitamins that encourage or stimulate hair growth may also cause your lashes to shed faster.

SLEEPING: We all have different sleeping positions we prefer to be comfortable at night. Those who sleep on their stomachs may have issues with the longevity of their lash extensions, as placing your face directly on your pillow every night can cause the extensions to bend or rub against the adhesive. If possible try to sleep on your back.

  • What are eyelash extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to the lash line using adhesive. The different types of lash extensions include; Classic Lash Extensions - where a single extension is applied to each lash. Volume Lash Extensions - when multiple lashes are applied to each lash. Natural Volume = 150-250 lashes per eye, also know as 2D - 4D Full Volume = 200-400 lashes per eye, also known as 2D - 6D Mega Volume = 400+ lashes per eye. Hybrid Lash Extensions - half way between Classic Lash Extensions & Volume Lash Extensions. They offer a thicker, denser looking set than Classic but without the uniformity and softness of Volume. The whole process for lash extensions to be applied can take anywhere from 1 hour - 2.5 hours. Please see our DASH Beauty Lash Extension Guide for more information regarding lash lengths & shapes.
  • How do I know what type of lash extensions to get?
A DASH Beauty lash specialist will discuss with you the look you want to acheive through lash extensisons. They will assess your natural lashes to recommend the appropriate thickness and length of extensions to help acheive your desired outcome. If you choose not to take the lash specialist's advice and go too thick or heavy for your natural lashes, you will find the lash extensions will not have adequate support and may not last as long as they should. Long term wear of too heavy/long lash extensions may cause damage to your natural lashes. It is always recommend to follow the advice & guidance of a lash specialist.
  • How long do eyelash extensions last?
Naturally your lashes shed and are replaced with new younger lashes in a cycle of 60 to 90 days. You will lose up to one or more of your natural lashes every single day and this is totally normal and part of the natural lash cycle. Lash extensions generally last until the natural lash falls out as part of this cycle. To keep your lash extensions looking full and beautiful, we recommend having infills applied approximately every 2-4 weeks. *Please note infill prices also depend on the condition and quality of the remaining lashes (at least 20-30% of your lash extensions must remain). This is at the decision of the lash specialist. The better care you take of your lash extensions, the longer they will last.
  • Do lash extensions damage your natural lashes?
Lash extensions when applied properly do not damage your natural lashes. The lash extension falls off with your natural lash as part of the natural lash cycle and your new lashes will grow through as normal. However, as mentioned before long term wear of too heavy/long lash extensions for your natural lash support may cause damage to your natural lashes. Alternatively not caring for your lashes properly or not following after care instructions could risk damage to your natural lashes.
  • Are lash extensions painful?
If applied properly the process of getting lash extensions is totally painless and often clients are so relaxed, most drift off to sleep. Those with sensitive eyes may feel a slight stinging or watering at the end of the process but this usually subsides within seconds. Once lash extensions have been applied they should feel just like your normal lashes. Remember not to rub or pick at your lash extensions.
